Using Visual Journals for curriculum is a passion of mine. It gives the chance for children to explore their learning through the arts. It allows for different entry and exits points and its an amazing way to assess student understanding using nonverbal representation. This session will be hands on and highlight many different techniques and share ideas based on grade one and two curriculum that can be adapted for different grades. During this session I will:  teach different backgrounds using a variety of mediums  teach folds and cuts that can easily be recreated by students  discuss increase in engagement by students “publishing” their own book  share ideas and curricular connections that teachers can immediately implement into their lesson plans  allow some “play time” for teachers to use what they have learned in my session to create pages that they could share with their students
